The city has detected its first positive mosquito test for West Nile Virus this season.
Ottawa Public Health says the infected insects were discovered during routine monitoring that began June 8.
There have been NO human cases reported in Ottawa; Ontario as a whole has confirmed one case as of August 3.
Experts remind us that the risk of infection remains until the first hard freeze.
Residents are advised to protect themselves from bites and remove standing water near their homes, as well as regularly change or treat the water in ornamental pools and birdbaths.
